Agnes Wilcox was born in Kentucky and grew up in Wisconsin. She is the Artistic Director of Prison Performing Arts in St. Louis. As part of her work she has directed a Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Missouri Eastern Women’s Prison at Vandalia, Richard III at Northeast Correctional Center at Bowling Green and Hamlet at Hogan Street Regional Youth Center in St. Louis, a juvenile correctional facility. She is best known for her production of Hamlet (2000-2002) at Missouri Eastern Correctional Center at Pacific, a production featured on National Public Radio's "This American Life with Ira Glass." Warner Brothers is developing a script based on the NPR documentary, written by Pulitzer Prize-winner Suzan-Lori Parks.
