Promoting Community Connections

FOCUS works to Promote Community Connections through our efforts as a regional catalyst and convener in numerous community collaborations. FOCUS organizes multiple efforts to engage all citizens in our vision of a thriving, cooperative region. As such, promoting connections is one of our broadest roles as it includes a multitude of events and activities that demonstrate our core belief in and commitment to citizen engagement and leadership.

Bridges Across Racial Polarization® – FOCUS' Bridges Across Racial Polarization® program promotes better communication and understanding across racial lines. Through informal interracial social gatherings in homes, schools, corporations, and faith-based institutions, participants develop friendships and new understanding. Started in 1993 by two Leadership St. Louis® alumni, Bridges was recognized in 2002 as one of 19 Solutions for America by The Pew Partnership.
What's Right with the Region!—an annual awards celebration and the signature event of FOCUS St. Louis—recognizes and highlights a number of local efforts to make the St. Louis region a better place in which to live, work, and play.
The Connect With...Young Professionals Collaborative offers social networking, arts and culture, and professional development events centered on attracting and retaining young professionals in the St. Louis region.
BoardLinkStL Readiness Workshops offer training and matching services for potential volunteers and nonprofits searching for board members.
Special Events – Throughout the year, FOCUS plans and hosts a significant number of events designed to help citizens learn about key issues within our region. The Breakfast Club SeriesCommunity Policy Forums, Community Cinema Series, the Dialogue and Deliberation Project, and other workshops and opportunities are all designed to bring citizens, experts, and leaders together to explore regional issues and concerns.
Additional events are added throughout the year. Please check our Events Calendar for more information on these and other upcoming events.
