Emerging Leaders 2019F

What prompted you to apply for a FOCUS program? I applied for Emerging Leaders at a time in my career when I was considering “what’s next.” I am grateful to have been with a wonderful company that is very supportive of leadership development and career growth. I desired a higher purpose in my work and the FOCUS  Emerging Leaders program gave me the time, resources, and connections to explore
opportunities and fully envision what that meant for me.

Is there a particular program day or element that sticks with you? For me, the Civic Action Project was meaningful in several ways. It was an opportunity to bond with a small group within the cohort, and we experienced the power of networking that led to relevant connections needed to jumpstart a project that continues to impact our community today.

What impact have you seen in your life as a result of your FOCUS experience? FOCUS Emerging Leaders has impacted all areas of my life. I made lasting connections with empowered women who encourage and inspire me personally and professionally. I experienced a career pivot not long after completing the program. Because of my FOCUS journey, I felt more prepared and had an expansive network to help guide me and my work.

What advice would you give to someone applying for a FOCUS program? To get the most of the experience, I would encourage folks to apply when they have the capacity to be present and engaged. As Shalia has said to me many times, “you’ll know when the time is right.”

How have you stayed involved with FOCUS following graduation? FOCUS is the ultimate leadership development and networking organization in St. Louis! Maintaining my membership allows me to stay up-to-date on events, issues and opportunities in our region. I’m grateful for ways to engage through forums and professional development events where I can continue to grow as a leader and expand
my network. I have also enjoyed connecting with Emerging Leaders, Youth Leadership and Women in Leadership through thought-provoking panel discussions.
